Biography
Dr Solomon Benor is currently working as a Director General for Science and Research Affairs at the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He is Plant Biotechnologist with over 22 years of national and international research experiences, namely he is currently a lead researcher affiliated to Addis Ababa Science and Technology University; previously he worked as a Post-Doctoral Scientist at Biosciences for Eastern and Central Africa (BecA) in Kenya; Research Fellow at Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Research in Germany; TWAS Research Fellow at Nanjing Agricultural University in China; Researcher at Norwegian Institute of Gene Ecology in Norway; Lecturer at Hawassa University in Ethiopia; and Plant Breeder at Sirinka Agricultural Research Center, Ethiopia.
Dr Solomon has produced numerous papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals. He is currently serving as Associate Editor of the Ethiopian Journal of Crop Science; Associate Editor of the Abyssinia Journal of Science and Technology; Executive Member of the Crop Science Society of Ethiopia; and Member of the Biological Society of Ethiopia.
In September 2019, Dr Solomon received a national prize, and named as “Laureate” by the Abyssinian Award for his life-time research achievements and community services in plant science research area.
Academic backgrounds of Dr Solomon are Diploma in Animal Sciences with Distinction at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia; BSc in Plant Sciences with Distinction at Alemaya University of Agriculture, Ethiopia; M. Phil in Plant Molecular Biology with highest honors at Tromsoe University, Norway; and Ph.D in Plant Molecular Genetics with magna cum laude at Kassel University, Germany.
