Ethiopian Scientific and Academic Network (ESAN)

ESAN was established as a virtual network of Ethiopian students, professionals and their colleagues to discuss and to float ideas on many aspects of education and research that have impact on the careers of such individuals as well as institutions in Ethiopia.  ESAN was established as such network in 2000, and it has a membership of at least 100000 individuals. The core beliefs/functions of ESAN include

1. The term Brain Drain should be replaced by Brain Mismanagement

2.  ESAN is a loose network of individuals dedicated to education of Ethioipans everywhere, hence the members are “Educators Without Borders

3. Support the Ethiopian youth and faculty achieve their full potential through direct mentoring and information exchange. 

4. ESAN does not make distinction between Ethiopians because of their geographic location. An Ethiopian is an Ethiopian where ever he/she chooses to live and work.  ESAN reaches out to Ethiopians everywhere. The current  reach is shown in the cluster map below
