1st Congress of the Ethiopian Scientific and Academic Network (ESAN-1)

Congress description
ESAN-1 is a multi disciplinary, multi institutional global forum to bring together the education, R&D and professional communities for the purposes of focused collaboration to help Ethiopia meet its MDG objectives. The particular focus this first forum is to identify opportunities and act on specific actions that can holistically overhaul K-12 through post-graduate education to enable capacity building with world-class quality. The stakeholders for this congress include policy makers, the Ministry of Education, institutions of higher learning, Teacher Training and Vocational Colleges, special needs communities, professional societies, business communities, R&D organizations and student groups.
The general topics of interest include
- -Opportunities and Challenges of Science (Higher) Education and Research in Ethiopia
- -Models programs that involve Diaspora, examples activities where Diaspora made significant contributions, can such models are adopted?
- -Sampling of Diaspora activities and their effectiveness
- -Higher education statistics and funding
- -Exploiting ICT and social networks to benefit higher education, case studies
- -Ethiopian scientific and professional societies and scientific publications in Ethiopia
- -Funding for higher education and student issues
- Higher Education Productivity Papers
- -All Scientific and Academic Discipines
- -Showcase research and education products of Ethiopian institutions
Congress organization
The congress will consist of two major session. The first session is dedicated to the general topics of interest, and paper submission to this session is by invitation only. The second session consists of poster session and round table. This session is designed to help participants to conduct intimate discussion on specific research and education ideas. It is also used to showcase the productivity of Ethiopian institutions higher learning, and research and education activities conducted by Diaspora communities, display high quality educational programs and products from around the world. You and your institution are encouraged to submit abstracts to the local secretariat.

Publication of abstracts and full papers
(1) Abstracts will be published in the abstract booklet and all participants will receive this booklet including other conference materials during the conference
(2) Full papers will be published online on ESAN sites and in print on the Ethiopian e-Journal for Research and Innovation Foresight (Ee-JRIF) Es-JRIF is a peer reviewed journal
