AASDO-ESAN Book for Ethiopia Partnership: The Oceans Began With a Drop of Water

AASDO has been very active in securing books for schools in Asella-Arsi areas. Following this experience we expand our work to include many schools, colleges and universities in collaboration with the Ethiopian Scientific and Academic (ESAN) community.  The ESAN community members are spread throughout the world and will play a vital role in identifying needy schools and aggressive fundraising efforts. About 99% of the schools in Ethiopia have no library, and more than 57% of the people over the age of 15 are illiterate.  However, in recent years, the country has made great strides in improving access to education for girls and poor children and improving the quality of education through improvements in higher education. English language education begins in elementary school, and high school and college courses are taught in English.  Thus, there is a great need for books for classroom and library use. Your donation to this project will impact more than one million students, their schools and their communities.  As it is told the Oceans Began With a Drop of Water, or the great old Ethiopian saying for One Man 50 Lemons become a Load, but for 50 people they are like ornaments; let’s help each other in this large scale project. Our plan is to raise funds to ship 5 or more containers of books, used computers and used sport’s gear and soccer balls.  We affectionately called this Abiy-Lemma Ethiopia Book project named after two young Ethiopian leaders who inspired this project. The beneficiary schools are clustered around universities for seamless logistics and communications.  There are several clusters Jimma-Keffa Schools, Arbaminch-Gamu Gofa Schools, Hawassa-Sidamo Schools Asela-Arsi-Bale Schools, Semara-Jigjiga Schools, Bahir Dar- Gondar Schools, Mekele-Tigrai Schools, Gambella-Benishangoul-Gumz Schools Mettu-Nekemte-Ambo Schools, Wollo-Shewa Schools Asmara -Eritrea Schools The books will be distributed to schools where the logistics of the acquisition and delivery are considered smooth and reliable. AASDO- ESAN also partner with One Life group.  This group is highly experienced in collecting and delivering books to several schools in Ethiopia.
