Biography of Participants

Wanda Diaz Merced , PhD:  I am affiliated  with the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Harvard. My interests are high energy astrophysics ( variable stars), the solar wind (interaction with cosmic rays), Inclusion and multisensorial perusal of big data. I would like to serve in the  publication group and the main stream for inclusion group . We will make the first fully accessible astronomy publications).

Beatriz García :I am affiliated with Instituto en Tecnologías de Detección y Astroparticulas (ITeDA), National Council of Scientific Research and National Tech. University, Argentina. My research interests are High Energy Cosmic Rays, Education and Astronomy for equity, inclusion and diversity.I am Astronomer, scientific researcher, co-chair of NASE Program (www.naseprogram.org), member of the IAU Working Group on Astronomy for Equity and Inclusion. Past president of the IAU Commission o Education and Development of the Astronomy.
 
 Shambel Sahlu Akalu, a Ph.D. candidate: expecting to finish this month.

Solomon Belay Tessema , Ph.D.: Associate Professor of Astrophysics. I served in the lecturer, Assistant professor and Associate Professor in teaching and Research at Jimma University, Kotebe Metropolitan University and  Entoto Observatory and Research Center.

  • 2013 -2016 Scientific Director and Researcher at Entoto Observatory and Research Center (EORC).
  • 2016- Present, Director General of Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI)  and Senior Scientist.

Seblu Humne Negu, PhD:  Assistant professor of Astrophysics and I was served as the master of science students by giving Astronomy courses and advising MSC students on their thesis at Ethiopian space science and technology Institute.
Area of Research Interest:Computational stellar Astrophysics: binary stars-observations plus theoretical with star catalogs.

Ghion Ashenafi: I am an MSc in Electronic System Design and Management and Associate Researcher at Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute. I am head of Instrumentation Unit, Astronomy and Astrophysics Department. Previously I served  as Electrical engineer at the Entoto Observatory and Research Center.

Betelehel Bilata: MSc in Astronomy and Astrophysics: Associate Researcher at Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI), Entoto Observatory and Research Center (EORC) Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Division. Previously served as lecturer at Debre Berhan University (DBU).

Area of research interest: Extragalactic astronomy: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their host galaxies.
 
Asrate Gaulle Weldegebreal, holds MSc in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute.

Dejene Zewdie, PhD . candidate in Astrophysics at Diego Portales University, Chile.  I am affiliated with Debre Berhan University. My research project focus on Properties of galaxies, active galaxies, and Hot Dust Obscured Galaxies (Hot DOGs). I want to participate in a group of Astronomy and Astrophysics/Stellar Astrophysics/ High energy astrophysics and Astroparticles/Galaxies, Interstellar medium, and Cosmology. 
 

Tsegaye Demsis Lemma, I will join Group E: Space Technology(i.e Earth Observation Research Group, Particularly Remote Sensing). My position is Associate Researcher-I @ ESSTI,

Project 
Project: 1) Title: RSRDP/01/2010 E.C(2017/18): Evaluation of the Status and National Demand of Earth Observation Application for Enhancing Agricultural Productivity and Natural Disaster Response in Ethiopia.(Completed and published report work as a book)
2) Title: RSRDP/02/2010(2018): Enhancing Earth Observation-based Drought Forecasting and Predication Services for Decision Support System in Ethiopia, Ongoing Project
3) Ethiopian Remote Sensing Satellite (ETRSS-1), actively working on daily operation and coordinating Ground Application System(GAS) ongoing project, there are other projects that I involved in.
Main Research Area: Land surface and Atmosphere Interaction, Thermal Remote Sensing, Optical & Radar Remote Sensing applications for Agriculture, Hydrology, Ecology based Disaster Risk Reduction(Eco-DRR), Land use Land cover(LULC) Dynamics
